Even though most of the leaves have yet to fall, we can already chalk 2017 up as a success for TCPA!
We awarded our annual research grant in the spring, reviewed and submitted comments on the state’s social studies standards, and of course, organized and hosted “30 Days of Tennessee Archaeology.” At our annual business meeting in January, the Board established two priorities for 2017.
On behalf of the Board, I want to thank all of you for making Archaeology Day a success and helping TCPA fulfill its mission to promote archaeological awareness and stewardship of the past.
Archaeology is an important field of anthropology, which is the broad study of human culture and biology.
Archaeologists concentrate their studies on past societies and changes in those societies over extremely long periods of time.
With its focus on the ancient past, archaeology somewhat resembles paleontologythe study of fossils of long-extinct animals, such as dinosaurs.
However, archaeology is distinct from paleontology and studies only past human life. You can follow us on Facebook to get current updates on Tennessee archaeology and find out about future events.
